I have a 1985 300d. The other day I tried to turn the car on and the key spun past where it normally starts the car in the ignition without starting the car. However the dash lights came on and remained on, even when I turned the car off and removed the key. I disconnected the battery to not destroy the battery. The car is now stuck in a parking lot. Any ideas?

 

New ignition switch. It sounds like it's stripped internally.
