How difficult of a job is it to replace this? I only work on cars casually (routine maintenace and easier jobs like radiators/shocks/etc), and have not taken out the dash on this car before.

The key will turn but won't engage the starter..it stops turning without any "spring action" to enage the starter.

i think diesel giant has a tutorial on this. www.dieselgiant.com i think it's time consuming but not difficult.

 

if i rememeber correctly you dont have to remove whole dash you should be able to pull instrument cluster and reach thru there.instrument cluster only pops out too.
