Help! My Window Won't Roll Up
Hi everyone!
Recently my back passenger side window decided to roll down and subsequently would not roll up. It kept rolling down though. And then it wouldn't do either. I had some friends work on it and they took off the door panel and then propped the window up with some poles, but had to disconnect it from the motor. Are fuses the problem here? How can I tell? What can I do to fix it? My dad usually takes care of this but I am away at college and I definitely don't have the money to take it to a mechanic.
Thanks,
Nicole
P.S. I have a 1983 240D

More than likely the lift motor is just tired -- you can take it apart to service it.
Use steel wool to clean the armature where the brushes make contact. Use wheel bearing grease to lube the end of the armature shaft and the internal gear drive mechanism. Of course, make sure the electrics are in good order and use a voltmeter or test light to ensure you have power at the motor connector when you activate the switch up/down.
Run the motor using an external 12V power source while it is out of the lift frame to make sure it's workingOK before you put everything back together.
Good luck!
