hello everyone

I'm looking into buying a 1995 MB 250D with 490,000km. Motor is original and transmission was replaced.
Any opinions about this model?
is there a website were i can get full specifications?

Thanks

Where are you?
Never have heard about those models available in America. I have some contacts with Europe and can get some info there.
From what I know, if you buy the car and pass the 1/2 million km on it, you'll get a special diploma from the company.

Found some info on 1994 model. It is 115 HP rated (quite good for smaller car) and one in Europe, with 372.000 km goes for almost 10 grand.

Thanks, I appreciate your info, I'm from Israel and lived at the US for a couple of years.

Hi Dori,

I am a former Israeli. I was under the impression that Diesel engine cars can not be used as private vehicles in Isreal. Is that still true.

hi Phil

There is a new (old now) law which says that one can own a diesel car as a private from the year 1992 and on. However the 'tag' fee each year is 3000 Shekel ($680) compared to 900 Shekel for a gas car of the same year model. They don't let you enjoy that fact that you'll pay less for diesel (3.2 S per Liter) compared to 5.2 S for gas. So they squeeze it out of you in the tag. And the bottom line is that it worth owning a diesel car only if your doing over then 30000km a year.

Wow. What's the reasoning behind that old law and the new tag pricing? Is gas sold only by the government?

The gas is imported to Israel and is owned by companies and unfortunately everything here is taxed high so there will be enough money for defense, for example, a 2005 Dodge Durango is $68,000 compared to $33,000 at the USA, a motorcycle, Suzuki R1000 $23,000 compared to $11,000 at the US.
