Default has anyone bombed an MB diesel. what to expect

ok so im probally going to be changing jobs in the very near future. im probally going to have a 60-70 mile RT commute every day. so I was thinking that a diesel powered car would be great for this, good milage. also I like fast cars, I was looking at MB diesels for their milage and relaiablilty. also theyve been around forever so you can find them at good prices. Ive done tons of research on diesel pickups and and familiar with the power they are capable of, but one would my be pratical for my as they average 18-20 mpg, great for a pickup yes, but would get very expensive for me. so it comes down to an MB or volvo diesel. the question is is there anybody bombing mb or volvo diesels here?? what kind of power are they capable of? how much would it cost. what does it take to reach 3-400hp?? ive seen the cars in finland and they have hit this mark, but there dosnt seem to be anything here anywhere near that. whats a realistic expectation for a MB diesel. thanks.

I figured it would be somewhat simmilar to a mechanical 12v cummins. you mention pre 87 cars, whats wrong with the newer cars?? 90-99?? although realisticaly for me it would probally be probally 90-93 or so, I really like the 98s, but there a little out of my budget.

Stay away from the old diesels. You'll find that a lot of sellers will sell their diesels because they overheat and require thousands for repairs. That's just my suggestion though, I know others will say differently. Go for a new05' CDI, since they've been sitting on the lot, the price will be a lot lower than an 07'.

I would go with any 82-87 MB diesel i personally like the 86-87 300sdl's but thats Also cause i had an 86 300sdl as my first car. Forcedinduction knows what he is talking about he just forgot to mention that in 86 they also had the 300sdl
