Prices of diesel in small city station are always very high. When I travel, I fill up at truck stops and take cans for the time, when I don't leave the city.
With 600 miles range on the tank, I don;t need many cans anyway.
Diesel is the cheapest fuel to produce and in whole World it usually sells for 10-30 % less, than gasoline.
Prices in USA has not much to do with cost of production, so that is another story.
