Default Glow Plugs

The previous owner of my '74 240d did some creative by-passing of the ignition switch, which, coupled with no owners manual, leaves me not knowing where to turn the glow plugs on. I have not found a switch, or indicator light telling me I have found them - actually, the extremely rough starts tells me i haven't found them. Thoughts?

In addition, I've seen fast-glow kits to replace the old-style glow plugs. Are there some that are better than others for the w115?

Default AH

Does the Gorilla **** have a back with several pins that connect into a harness that can be removed? If so, mine dangles from underneath the dash, and there was a screwdriver left to turn it. No indication when in any position of glow plugs coming on. Just ordered 4 new ones, so we'll see if that helps.
This is what I was talking about.

Also, there is a pull **** in the middle of my dash - almost inline with the shifter, that when pulled, a light comes on inside it. when you let go, it returns to the former position, and the light is extinguished. I thought that was the glow plugs at first, but apparently not. So what is that ****'s function? Thank you for your patience!
