I swapped the 603.971 in my wife's 92 300SD 140type with a 603.961. Everything matched up except the oil pickup tube which I manufactured and it runs great now, except.
The transmission will not shift out of 2nd gear. Manually I can shift from 2nd to 3rd but in Drive it just stays in 2nd gear. It also "clunks" hard when going in to Drive or Reverse. I contacted a local mechanic and he stated the engine swap was impossible without changing the transmission also. Does anyone have any resources I can look into to see if this is "just" a computer problem or maybe eve a vacuum problem and how I would go about checking these things?
