EGR valve - 220 cdi
I have a 2001 E220cdi, with 126000miles.
Have ssen on other forums that many people bypass the EGR valve by either blocking it with a plate or plugging the vacuum line to disable it.
What does this do for the engine?
Is there anything detrimental in doing this and are there actually any benefits for doing so.
My EGR is causing problems and I am being told it does little for the engine anyway.
Can anyone advise?
Thanks in advance.

RE: EGR valve - 220 cdi
The EGR slows you down. Since Bruno, my 1982 300D T, mostly burns WVO, I put a bb in hisEGR line... andhe definitely had more pep.... I then went even further and by passed the switch over valve... so that the pressure line coming from the banjo nut behind the manifold and next to the firewall now goes directly to the ALDA... Man what a big difference! acceleration is much more like a gasser.. and he even shifts better! Some guys have gone the extra step of actually removing the ALDA..
