Any one know just how many RPM's a 1984 300D (turbo) is actually capable of turning and what speed it is in high gear?

(it is SPOOOOOOOOOKY; the RPM not the speed[:-])

Looking at a 1983 240D non-turbo diesel...Is it any good? How much would you pay for one? Frame is in great condition..

What frame I thought they were uni-bodies???

Hi - My first post! I am off to see a second owner 1978 300D with 210,000 miles tomorrow.I will most likely buy it unlessthere is something obviously wrong. I am glad to see it's on the "buy" list. Any comments regarding specific problems with this particular year/model would be appreciated. Thanks!

Hello,

New to MB, and diesels, but always wanted one...thought they were high priced....but I found an '85 300TD turbodiesel sedan, (california emissions package, 200,000 mi.) The turbo doesn't work, -no power to speak of at all on test drive. A/c not working, door locks/fuel door inop....No rust, good body/interior for the age.(What would you pay? He's asking 3700.) I want a daily driver I can put the family in, and for me to commute to work & back -(High mileage car)

The owner tells me I can get an '82-'85 non-california model manifolds, turbo and exhaust pipes for around $500 (parts) and take off the ca. stuff. Does anyone see any problems with this? You all seem very smart in this area....I'd sure appreciate anything you have to offer!

Thanks,

Richard

For that kind of money, RUN! away. Paid under 2 grand for a solid awsome running sedan. They're getting a little scarce due to the wvo thing but they're around.

As I understand it, the350 diesel of that time was basically the 6 cylinder 300 diesel upgraded wth a bigger cylinder bore. HOWEVER, the bottom end (crankshaft, etc.) was not upgraded as well. There were retrofit "kits" made available to upgrade the bottom end which reputedly addressed the problems with this engine.

Well, I need some advise. I am thinking of buying a 1993 S300D ( om603 engine ) with a dead engine. It is not quite dead but is blowing white smoke, a cloud making machine literally. I believe it is a 'bend rod' problem.

Shall I buy it and if it is cheap enough? It is in very good shape otherwise. I am a reasonable mechanic and can take the head and the pan off and replace the rod, rings etc. Replacing the engine is a possibilites but that is plan B.

My plann isto convert it to run onWVO. I have donea 1983 300Turbo Dieselwith great success. I justwant a more comfy MBZwhich can give me 100,000 ( hopefully more ) miles to get my money worth. Would this adventure worth my money and sweat. I am planning of buying it for under < $3000.

Thanks

Just bought an emmaculate 93 300SD. I know about the engine problems. This engine seems OK so far; but I used a quart of oil after 400-500 miles and the mileage seems to be 20 mpg tops.

Iwould be interested in putting a new engine in as well eventually. Will the newer six cylinder fit?
