Diesel in the winter

I happened to mention to a friend that I was about to purchase a 1997 MB E300D and was promptly told me I'd have nothing but problems in the winter. Something about starting the car and how the diesel wouldn't work when it got too cold. I live in central NY where winters can get pretty bad, but certainly not terrible.Anyone out there with more experience or sense than my not so helpful"friend"...I'd love to hear the advice (particularly if he was wrong).

Thanks

RE: Diesel in the winter

i ve been driving diesels since 1985, never had a cold weather failure yet.

started with 1985 s 10 chevy pickup with isuzu 2.2 l diesel.

had both a 6.0 powerstroke and my duramax s in vermont....... a .7.3 powerstroke back a few years when temps in vt dropped to minus 30........cranked right up........

fuels, and diesel design has come a long way from the problems with starting......
