Diesel Leak on E300

Hello all,

I have just purchased a 1995 E300D and have noticed that everywhere I park I leave a puddle. I looked under the car and see that it is dripping from between the front wheels and off center to the passenger side. The liquid looks clear and smells like diesel. It seems that it leaks more just after running and slows down after the car sits for a while. If there is any one that may be able to get me started looking in the right direction please let me know, and I would greatly appreciate it.

RE: Diesel Leak on E300

In Pennsylvania, we are starting the switch to Ultra Low Sulfur Diesel (ULSD) fuel. None of the gas station diesel pumps are labeled for the ULSD yet, so you do not know if you are buying ULSD or the old Low Sulfur Diesel. Anyway, the ULSD will cause some fuel line seals (o-rings) and lines in older vehicles like my 1995 E300 diesel to shrink and crack, causing leaks. My first symptoms were the fuel line leaks, leaving a puddle on the ground, and harder starting due to air leaks through the cracked seals. According to my dealer, I am the first in our area to have this. (Lucky me!) The cost of a total seal replacement was $397. (A question for anybody: Did I get taken???)

Personally I would sue the gas station for not making me aware if that happened. Just be on the lookout for anyone throwing out cigarettes out of their window, your car may be a fireball [&:]

Its diesel not gas. Diesel will just burn gas expoldes try it once pour some gas on the ground and light it watch whats happens then use diesel. Big difference.

But yea about the seals i would pursue that!
