Diesel Glow Indicator

Hi I have the old style Diesel Glow Indicator "Salt Shaker Style" BOSCH Part#SHWJ7L2Z

The element or coil inside is burnt. Is there anywhere in the US where I can buy a replacement element or coil.

I would like to keep the housing original if possible.

Thank you, Sam

Personally speaking if it is possible to bypass the thing that is what I would do. After that you simply need to gestimate how long to Preglow.

On Fourms it is best to put your Vehicle Year Model and so on so that People are more inclinded to help.

For the Part try the Mercedes Dealer

Online Junk Yards

Ebay

Boach North America has a Website

You could look up the Mercedes Part Number and try shopping with that.
This is some places you can look up the Part Numbers. It is not a recommendation to buy Parts from any of the sources.

Of course the open circuit created by the burned out "Salt Shaker" will keep the GPS from working.

By bypassing I was speaking of bridging the Open Circuit with a Wire.

Unfortuantly I don't have a Manual with a Wiring Diagram to see what is possible.

I also cannot remember what the Guy I worked for used to do back in the 1970s to fix the issue without replaceing the Salt Shaker.

I think this is the pic of the Glow Plug Circuit with the Knob that you have to pull.

#5 in the pic is the Salt Shaker. The Circuit that bypasses the Salt Shaker is the Circuit that allows the Glow Plugs to work while the Starter is cranking. The Salt Shaker is bypassed during Starting so that there is not the combined Voltage drop of the Salt Shaker and the Starter Motor at the same time.

Also this car sounds like a good candidate for the updated to the Pencil Glow Plugs.
