They are sold on eBay, maybe the sponser of this forum also sells them and of cource the Mercedes Dealer.

You might look here as some have used alternative methods.

The reason why to ream the Carbon out of the Glow Plug Holes (in my opinion) is that the Carbon builds up around the Base of the Glow Plug Tip; the part that gets hot. Instead of heating the Air in the Precombustion chamber the Carbon causes the heat to be conducted into the Cylinder Head.

When the Glow Plug works normal as it gets hot the Amps it pulls drops of. If it stays colder the Glow Plugs continue to pull the higher Amps for a longer period of time. I am guessing that is what shortens their life if you do not get the Carbon out.

Even if my explination is not correct experience has shown that the Carbon Buildup shortens their life.

In the one pic the Red Arrows point at the space where the Carbon Build up.

In the next pic is a Glow Plug Reamer that I make on the Left; a Glow Plug in the Middle and a Factory Made Glow Plug Reamer on the Right.

How to use it. You put grease in the Grooves (Flutes) of the Reamer; this will tarp the Carbon and keep it from falling inside.

Insert the Reamer into the hole and turn it clockwise and push it forward slightly. Cut turough the Carbon until the Reamers threads can be threade into the head and just screw it in untilit stops. Do not tighten it.

Back it out and clean the Grease out of the Flutes, re-grease it and go to the next hole and do the same thing to each of the holes until you are done.

The Factory Reamer in the pic came from eBay and it came with no instructions.

A 7mm Drill Bit, that is the outside diameter of the factory made Glow Plug Reamer.
