Default Coolant leak

1984 300D
Last night I was looking under the hood and some green coolant caught my eye on top on the bellhousing. It's not very much and I have not seen any on the ground but I want to fix it ASAP. Is there a water jacket plug on the back of the head? Any other areas that are known leaking spots? I'm really hoping this is not the head gasket that has failed. With 90-100 degF days here the engine temp has climbed to 100 degC twice when I climb 2000ft at 50-60mph up to my house. Cooler days it will stop at 90-95degC. In the flat land it runs80-85degC but as soon as I start up the hill the temp starts to climb.
I did an external flush of the radiator and changed the coolant cap, both of which made no noticeable difference. Also the fan seems to pull plenty of air and the car does not overheat in traffic. I'm thinking I'll replace the thermostat and water pump next.

Any thoughts?

Phil

Possibly the hoses/tubing along the firewall are leaking. They are right above the bellhousing.

Those hoses look good.
Any other ideas?

mono-valve, or the hard metal lines. Those are pretty much your only choices. Even if the hose looks good, run the car and wiggle each hose. The leak may not be evident without a little movement.

I'll try that.

Thanks
