Default Automative Shifter Feels Loose (81 300D)

I have owned this car for years and have had to do only minimal work. Out of the blue, I noticed that the automatic shifter seems loose or has a fair amount of play or jiggle to it. It shifts out of Park and into Drive with very little resistance now. The car still drives well and seems to shift well. It hasn't popped out of gear, but feels like it could. I have noticed a new rattle and I can't locate it and wonder if it is related. The transmission fluild was low (was not driven long with low fluid). I filled it and there has been no change. Wonder if this is something to be concerned about....Any thoughts by more experienced MB owners would be appreciated.

Would the linkage be pretty easy to get at from underneath the car? Can I replace or change the bushings? Is this something I should try to fix or leave alone since the car is still driving fine? Thanks!!!
