I went to go look at this car and it as 178,000 miles on it. The body has sun damage and the inside does too. The wood panels glue is coming off in certain spots. One of the seats have a rip. Rare shocks are gone (he is willing to include new shocks for $100.00 total) and two wheels are ready to blow. The guy only wants $600.00 for it. There is only one problem which is why I am asking what you guys think.

He has not driven it in 5 years and it has been on a slant (hood up). The car seemed to have no oil in it (I guess it all went to the back). Also there is no battery (do diesels need a special battery?). Now he went to start it up to show me that the car works and it would not turn over. He promises that the car was working great before he stopped using it (he stopped because he got 2 other cars and a big family).

What should I do, he said to give him by tuesday to start the car. What problems should I be ready for with a car that has not been on for that long? Also the engine is covered in black oil gunk, is this normal?
