About to buy a 1987 190d
I think I'm about to dive into the diesel world... I've always wanted one of these cars and now I think the opportunity has arisen. I love doing my own work and maintenance, which from what I understand is a huge factor in owning one of these cars and not going broke.
the car is an '87 190d non-turbo with 110k original miles for $3k 1 owner with a stack of maintenance records. The lady said she couldn't afford to keep taking it to the dealership for repairs. I drove it today and everything seemed great other than a few quirks. -is it normal to have to press the pedal nearly to the floor to moderately accelerate from a stop? -once the car got rolling, it almost felt like the cruise control was kicking in..it wouldn't really slow down (rpms didn't drop) if you took your foot off of the accelerator. not normal? the fan for the ac doesn't work. How easy is it to swap in a new one? I haven't purchased the car yet... going to look at it one more time before I commit to buy. Anything else that i should look out for when I go back? Cheers! |

If its an 87 and non-turbo then thats not the original engine. 87 was the only year that had a turbo.
Based on your description of the odd performance I strongly suspect fraud. Unless they went to the lengths to swap the emblems on the back as well... Don't the turbo cars advertise "2.5 turbo" on the trunk? Perhaps the owner got the year wrong? Attachment 7099 |
