Default 84 300SDL Turbo Max Speed

Hey Guys, I am the proud owner of a 1984 300SD Turbo Diesel in mint condition. I am very familiar with MB diesels as my family always had one around when I was growing up, but I'm a bit perplexed about this one. Great handling great acceleration, etc. However, I cannot get her above 65 or 70 miles per hour. At that point the petal is all the day down.

What are your thoughts. I was thinking that they werent designed to go any faster. (BTW - the turbo charger kicks in just fine on hills etc, but not above 60 mph.

Sounds like a trans problem. Is it a US model? cause in the US 300SDL was only in 86-87

Yes, a US model, 84 300 SD, not the SDL. I have all books and records. Meticulous maintenance. I mean it is weird, it can get to 70 mph on a straight road, but that is it, by that point my foot is all the way down on the petal and no more. If I go uphill on the highway, the turbocharger kicks in and is able to maintain about 60.

fuel filter, fuel filter, fuel filter! if its starving for fuel it cant go any faster.
after replacement and you still have problems clean your injectors
http://www.dieselgiant.com/injectorcleaning.htm

if you still have problems check the timing, the chain does strech over the years. my 76' 300d wants you to atleast take a peek at it every 15k when you check the valve gap

the reason that car was such a breakthru is because it was the first MB to break 100mph while still being able to get 26mpg approx.

the 76 will do 83mph...
