Default 83 300D Turbo Drain Line issue

I'm currently trying to replace my Turbo Drain tube on my 83 300 D. After getting the oil pan off I realized I could not get to the top of the tube where it connects to the turbo. I only need to replace the bottom portion but i think i need to take them both off to install it. Does anyone have some insight on this repair?
Thanks,
Erich

Erich,

The only way I've been able to do is to remove both halves. It sucks. I'm sorry. By taking the two screws holding the top half up you can push it farther up and pull the bottom half farther down in order to create enough clearance to separate the two parts and get them both out.

Do it from underneath the car. It's tight, but it can be done.

I got the tube undone using a small ratchet from the top. I am now facing the problem of putting it all back together. Do i need to put the grommet in the pan first and then push the tube down into it or does it need to go on the tube first and then push both down into the pan? Yesterday i put the grommet onto the tube then tried pushing both into the pan but the grommet just slid right up the tube. Also, should I combine both pieces of the tube (top and bottom) before i insert the bottom one into the pan? I believe that i should seeing as how the top one might not fit in there with the bottom one securely in place.

Completely coat the grommet liberally with WD-40 and put it in the middle of the tube. Use some gasket cement on the new gasket for the top tube and glue it into position on the tube. Put the lower tube down into the pan as low as it will go. Slide the top tube up as high as it will go. Bring them both together. Bolt the top tube into position. Slide the bottom tube up into the top tube and push the grommet down into the pan. Make sure it's properly seated all the way around. The WD-40 will evaporate and glue the grommet and o-rings into place.
