82 300TD Throtle locks me out occasionally?
 

Hey all, I'm a newby to the forum, and a newby to owning a MB. Brought home an 82 300TD turbo diesel wagon - well maintained - 270K.

The first issue I'd like to post about: Several times, while driving in town, the throtle has "set up", or in otherwords, the pedal bacame very very stiff, and I couldn't bring the engine off of idle - thank god it hasn't cost us body work - but...

Is this something anyone else has encountered? Problem each time (2 or 3) has been very short lived (10 - 20 seconds?) - each time I've been too occupied with the driving to really notice what change I made to bring it back...

any thoughts????

Only other issue I'm curious about is the fact: If I don't keep a good brand injector cleaner in the fuel (and about double the "maintainence" ratio), the car won't take a medium grade at over about 20 mph... Normal???

This throttle linkage has many! pivot points under the hood. One at the firewall, at least two on the injector pump and maybe two more on the valve cover. All are the ball in socket type. I would pop these linkage rods off and lube the balls. Disconnect one end at a time so as to not disturb settings. I've used a light coating of wheel bearing grease on mine. Regarding your lack of power, I would first change both underhood fuel filters. There is also a filter inside the tank that gets forgotten. with that many miles, you need to change these just as a preventative measure.
