81 240d cranks over but won't catch.

I'm a new owner of an 81 240d. Since buying this car I have changed the glow plugs and had the valves adjusted. After having those things done the car has started and run quite well. However, it has suddenly quite starting. It will crank strongly but won't start. It won't even try to start. It just cranks. Any thoughts out there? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Start with replacing the fuel filters. Make sure fuel flows through the lines when you pump the primer and that the primer does not leak any fuel when manually pumping.

Thanks, I'll try that. I don't have much time now so it might be awhile before I get back to you.

Well the primer pump leaks badly. The filters are new and fuel moved through them. I guess I need to bleed the system. I haven't done this before but I have a repair manual that tells how to do It. Any tips beyond what the manual says?

Are you sure your fuel gauge is accurate? Toss in say three gallons after changing or tightening down real hard on the primer pump, best to change pump.

The new version does not have a screw-out handle.

I have replaced the primer pump. It No longer leaks. I pumped it quite a few times. Alas, no change. Motor Turns over strongly but won't even try to catch. Do I need to pump It a lot?

Gauge is good. I did replace the primer pump. Still no change.
