300d Transmission compatibility?

hello all,

i have a grey market import 1984 300D with the automatic 4 speed transmission (which died and has been removed)
the original transmission is stamped with this:

1232705601 722.405 02 072250

i am leaving college thursday morning, and have found a transmission on the way home at a junkyard. 139,000 miles, grade "A" (less than 15k per year), this transmission has these #'sstamped on the side:

1232705901 722.315 02 505438

will it work in my car? they both have a mechanical speedometer sensor.

a quick response would be much appreciated

thanks a bunch
-justin

They should bolt up fine. Only issue is the vacuum adjustment.

The vacuum modulator. If the new trans was from a Turbo model, the modulator will have to be adjusted if you have a n/a model.

RE: 300d Transmission compatibility?

On the left side of the transmission (drivers side) there is a round plastic (normally green in colour) modulator with a vacuum line connected to it. What I would do is do the swap and make sure all vacuum lines and linkages are properly connected. Fill the tranmission with fluid, then take it for a short drive. If your shifts are harsh, then there is a "T" knob on the modulator - turn it counter clockwise to soften the shift. If the shift is too soft or feels like it is slipping, then firm up the shift by turining the knob clockwise. Do this in small increments.

transmission compatability

I have an 1984 300d and the tranny has stopped moving the car forward reverse is fine. It will go but only if you rev it up. I the option of a free 1981 300d wagon, will the tranny bolt up if i need it.

I am looking to find out what's compatible in my 86 300SDL (greasel) and found this link, but it doesn't mention the SDL, maybe it can help someone else. http://www.jpat.co.uk/Mercedes%20tra...0reference.pdf
