Default 300d Trans conversion

I have a 1980 300D that has the auto 4sp. Trans is worn and slipping, plus someone ruined all the vacuum control systems for the modulator to the point of needing lots of time and parts to bring back to normal, so it shifts like crap and I have to manually shift it everywhere.
I heard that some people have adapted a Toyota 5sp manual trans behind these motors and it works great! Has anyone out there done this? What was your thoughts on the conversion after it was said and done?

Thanks~

Thanks!
I have had that thought too...The 240d 4sp should all bolt in including the flywheel and pedals, correct?
Doesn't seem to be any off the shelf parts for this Toyota 5sp conversion that I can see. I did find a kit for adapting a chev 700r4 auto into the car. This kit will also accept a GM car manual trans. The kit comes with a bell housing adaptor, crank adaptor, flex plate, and a required different starter ( all for $800 ). You still need pedals, driveshaft, custom mount...etc! I could see this being a $2k project.

Sounds like the way to go! Search is on for the 240d manual car... Thanks for the input. Maybe buy a '79 with the manual hvac controls and see about converting that too!?
