300d timing chain snap
Hey all!
I have recently purchased a 1980 300d with a engine issue. The timing chain snapped waisting the camshaft mains. The piston top looks like it was barely phased by it and has no visible damage.
My question is - Can I replace the head, chain/gears, tensioner, and guides while the short block is in the car? Another website says the motor needs to be pulled if the chain snaps but they don't specify why?! Has anyone been down this road?
Thanks!
