300D Engine Number

Hi! I need to know the engine number for my '93 300D 2.5 Turbo. I'm needing to buy a belt tensioner assembly for the serpentine belt, and there are apparantly 3 different types, the correct one is based on my engine number. The sticker on the side of the valve cover is faded and unreadable, is there any other way to find out what the engine number is? The car was made in April of '93, so I'm guessing that the correct assembly is probably the one for the latest model of engine, but I hate to spend the money and find out it is the wrong part once everything is disassembled! Any ideas?
Phil

RE: 300D Engine Number

602 is the number. Its an easy job. You'll need to take the radiator and shroud off an hen use a torshen bar to take pressure off belt. The rest is just basic bolts. The shock...remember how it came off.

RE: 300D Engine Number

Thanks, I appreciate the response. I wasn't clear, but I actually need the engine serial number to order the correct part, and I'm running out of ideas on how to find it. The decal on the valve cover is long gone. Is there a place where you can get engine serial numbers by inputting the VIN? I did find a plate that stated the car was built in April of '93, but I can't find any other information. Any help would be greatly appreciated!
