Hi Mr 47 - Too bad to hear about the bad engine. Must have quite a sound system if it was trying to hide anything on a diesel engine. They do have glow plugs, they might be the older style, but the light on the dash would be the same. My friend has a 82' 240 and he loves it. He does not care about speed, which is good, since it only has about 68hp or so. If you can find a 4-spd on a 240d, that could help you out with merging on a highway without fearing that you would die. I have a 78' 300D and even that, the merge gets interesting sometimes. Good luck.

The lack of glow light sugests one or more of the glow plugs is bad(maybe a fault in the wiring or glow relay). If it still cold starts this could be a sign of good compression. Get away from that loud music joker and his s**t car. Take time and find the right one.
