240 D Engine Swap
 

I have a 1980 240D with 4 speed manual trans that just ate the #2 cylinder. I'm curious about putting a 300D engine in. Does anyone out there have any experience with this? Can you use the 240 flywheel on the 300? I want to stay with the manual trans. I believe the 300 engine sits closer to the firewall than the 240; would the transmission have to be moved back?

The other possibility is, I have an opportunity to purchase an '82 300TD. Could the 240 flywheel and trans be swapped into the 300TD? Any info would be appreciated. Thank you
