240 d

Sorry if you guys have answered this already, but I was hoping someone had run into something similar. I have a 1975 240d in good shape, but lacking a motor. I can get a 1980 300 d motor in good shape with an automatic transmission. Will it fit with a reasonable amount of work, or bag it and keep looking for a 240d motor?
