1995 E300D Fuel Filter

Hello all,

I am trying to change the fuel filters on a 1995 E300D.
A few questions I have are:
Does the fuel filter have a reverse thread, i.e. counter clockwise to tighten?
Is a special fuel filter wrench required to change it, similar to a typical American oil filter?

Thanks in advance for any knowledge. I tried to hand loosen the fuel filter with no success.

RE: 1995 E300D Fuel Filter

In order to remove the main Fuel Filter, you must first remove the nut attaching the "Stop" valve to the top of the filter. Once that nut is loose, you can unscrew the "Stop" valve, and as you do that the main fuel filter comes loose.

Its easier than it sounds. Make sure that you also replace the Rubber "O" Ring on the "Stop" valve. The "O" ring are normally included with the filter, at least if you get your Filter from Mercedes.

Also make sure that you get the right fuel filter for you car. Although some fuel filters will physically fit, they don't have the mechanism inside that allows the Emergency "STOP" engine valve to function with them. In such cases you will not be able to shut-off the engine in an emergency by closing the valve. The fuel filter is relatively cheap, so its best to get it from the Mercedes Dealer. Give them your year model AND VIN number, to make sure that you get the right Filter.

Don't ask me how I know.

Phil
