I have a 1990 identical to the second one. Its' my second 1990. They are good cars.

My only advice would be to have the timing chain replaced as a preventative measure. My current car lost a chain before I bought it. The records show a $5400 dealer charge to rebuild the the head.

If the car idle shakes the car at all, you've got to replace the pneumatic motor mounts.. They commonly loose their charge.

You will see some wear items in the interior.. plastics breaking, etc.

the low mileage makes this a great find. I bought my first 1990 with 124K and 158K on the second one.

Incidently, the black 92 has MB Tex, not leather. Its the preferred interior. By this time the leather in a '92 would look pretty bad.. Time waits for no one.

Tim

Thanks Tim.

What do you guys think would be the max price of the above white 92 300D assuming it is a creme puff with 137k miles?

Edmund's suggested retail says $5500. But KBB says $3400...that sound a bit low to me.

Blue Books do not represent the real value of DIESEL cars so they are not worth looking at it. Just get the car you like because with these cars the more you wait you may lose the one you like because they do not sitt a whole lot on the dealer lot or someones home for sale.

Default The Saga Continues.

Wish me luck, I am driving tomorrow to see this car (250 miles away). This car has had two owners and the Autocheck report is totally clean. I talked with the dealer owner this morning and he reports this car is in great shape (of course though he is the dealer). His list price is $6900 so if I like it my target price is going to be 80% of that, $5520. I hope that sounds reasonable to you guys. Let me know what you think. These are the pictures he has sent me.

Essentially, any car is worth what you're willing to pay for it. Although why you'd be willing to pay $1000. more than average retail is beyond me.

Because people pay premiums for diesel cars so no stupid "average retail" that you use on Ford Focus applies to mercedes diesel.

Not true. The numbers given by the companies that compile them are usually based on auto auction results so they are typically the average of the highest prices paid.

This one looks very tidy, if the mechanicals are similar it should be worth considering. Value is a funny thing, if you like it buy it. You will be kicking yourself if you don't considering the scarcity of the model and finding one in excellent condition is even rarer. I brought one in from Japan with 155Km ( 95,000mi) which I couldn't find locally. Cheers Dan
