Default 1987 300D Turbo

I have a 1987 300D Turbo, with major power problems. This car is in great condition, but the 0-60 is measured with a sun dial. I do know the turbo is not working(why not sure).
How do I find out which turbo is on my car, so I can be educated on the price of a replacement. I do believe there were two different turbos used on the 87 300D turbos cars.
Recommend new or rebuilt turbo.
If anyone has any ideas about the problem that my not be the turbo.

You can pull the intake line from the turbo. do a visual of the turbine blades [ sharp crisp edges ] give it a spin does it spin and is it rubing any thing? You can start it up too, but any dirt sucked in is very hard on tubo blades, plus isn't good for the engine. I would check with a truck diesel / repair shop first. Turbo inside parts are not specfic to MB and may be your best route or do an exchange. Remember not to rev the engine before shutting down, to let the turbo to SLOW DOWN and COOL OFF. Turbo bearings spin on the shaft and the housing / double bearing, and ride on oil. Once you shut the engine off oil supply stops, and the blades have to stop with the oil left. So if your engine was working hard/ hot and and or shut off from a higher RPM the bearings can sieze. Good luck
