Default 1987 300d turbo

I just recently bought my fouth MB diesel a 1987 300D Turbo with 181000 and in excellent condition. I took it directly to the shop for a 60000 mile service so that I would start with a clean slate. Needed rear rotors and pads, new spedometer cable and the rest was part of 60k service. Body and interior are near showroom conditions. I figured it was a smart 1300 dollar investment on a car I just paid 3200 for. I think I did fairly well. I also have an 1988 190D with 165K, a 1983 300SD with 275K and a 1980 300SD with 105K. I like the old diesels. If you do the scheduled maintenence they tend to be a bargin to drive.

The queation I have is why did they make the 300D turbo 3.0L only in 1987 and the 190D turbo. I have heard it was because it was an anniversery year and some tell me because of emissions. Does and one no the reason? I am also looking for articles on the 1989 300D Turbo.

Default RE: 1987 300d turbo

From what I have read, it was in part due to emission controls imposed.
