1987 190d turbo Working?
 

I just bought this classic and I am almost certain the turbo is not operational. I don't really know where to begin to check its functionality. I have an alldatadiy.com subscription but the tests are a bit over my pay grade. Any simple ideas for a MB newby?

I changed both fuel filters and gained very little in the way of performance. I have also checked the vacuum lines but found no problems. My time was 25 sec 0-60... not exactly impressive.

I checked the throttle and it is not out of adjustment. I am wondering if it does not all go back to the turbo?

I have had a chance to work on the turbo some more but my findings are inconclusive. I took off the intake hose and the blades are fine and it spins freely. With the car running turbo is spinning but it looks to me like it is just spinning because of the air rushing past it. It does not seem to be forcing air in.
