Dear Users,
I have recently purchased a '87 190D and I love it! I noticed that the glove box has a sticker that dictates a replacement of the driver's airbag (the only airbag) in July of 1997. Well, being April of 2008 the expiration date on that carton of milk says the solid block of cheese inside is long past my morning cereal. I am wondering, how necessary is it to adhere strictly to the replacement date as suggested by the manual. I have a pretty good feeling that not only is the replacement well beyond the jurisdiction of my personal Mercedes mechanic that has otherwise taken care of everything, but I am also guessing that to have this safety feature replaced by a certified dealership would cost more than the bill for a broken neck. Any comments or suggestions on a course of action?

While the repair is often costly, do you think it is worth the money. My parents have agreed to split the costs with me it if its worth doing. I assure you, I would only have a certified SRS/Mercedes dealership do this one. ($$ AHH!) Perhaps I am only searching for piece of mind.

Are you joking?Anything that assists inpreventing your skull from crashing through the windshield on a frontal impact should notbe minimalized. Very irresponsible comment IMHO.
