Default 1985 300TDA single year engine?

I've been told that the 1985 300TD came with a single-year (Mercedes only built that particular engine in 85) and thus was less desirable (maybe because of aluminum heads instead of cast iron?). However, I've not been able to confirm this anywhere. When I asked the person where they learned about this, their reply was: "Ask any Mercedes diesel mechanic who knows these cars and they'll tell you that. I'm not making this stuff up." Well, I don't know any Mercedes diesel mechanics, and they are rare where I live.

What I have seen is that the 86 and 87 300TDs carried the different engine. Can someone help set me straight on this? Thanks. I've found a sweet 85 300TD T that I'm considering buying.

Great. Thanks for this helpful information. I see you are in Colorado. Any problems with your diesels in the winter?

87 is a 6 cyclinder 1 yr for the 300d Forceinjection is correct. I belive the ones to avoid are around the 1990 area problem with rods and using oil. Don't qoate me but check the form for better info.
good luck

87 300D 200k and running great
