Default 1985 300D starting trouble, plus more...lol

I've got a 1985 300D that I picked up a while ago and have had issues with. To start, won't start with out the use of ether for the first time in the day. After it is started and ran just for a few minutes, it can be shut off and will start right back up with in an hour. Between one and two hours, it will be hard to start, but with in one or two tries of cranking it for 7-10 seconds, it will start. Three hours and beyond, WILL NOT START WITHOUT EITHER. The weather has no effect either. This is just how it is, no matter how cold or how hot. Obviously has something to do with time, not temp. Now, I know that I have a Vac. problem too. The main vacuum line running from the vacuum pump to the brake servo has that little 2-line splitter, well one of the lines out is broken, the other cracked. I don't know if that has an effect on it's starting or not, but I do figure that it probably is what makes it not shut off with the ignition switch, instead, you have to depress the stop lever on the side of the motor. I should also mention, the glowplugs are less then a year old and the light still comes on and they seem to still have an effect. Any ideas on what could be causing these issues with started would be great! Thanks in advance!
