1982 240D Driver's Seat costly mistake. HELP!
I didn't know that a 1976 240D (Auto Trans) driver's seat would not work in my 1982 240D (manual trans). When removing the totally shot driver's seat from my '82 rust bucket... the rear left housing fell completely through the floorboard. I now have a nice view of the street below my seat. After the old seat was tossed out, I put in the seat I got from a guy in DC. It didn't look right but I tried anyway thinking that a W123 seat would work on any W123 chassis car. WRONG! It's not even close. It sits way low, the seat back adjustment is on the wrong side, there is no bolt to put the seat belt on and the tracks are about 2 inches too short.
I literally almost came unglued on this one. I will continue to search for a 240D MANUAL TRANNY Driver's seat. In the mean time, can anyone tell me if they know of any seat at all that will work with this chassis? I'm willing to put anything in there... anything. I don't care if it's an Econoline seat, Accord seat anything. The rust is getting the better of me and I am going to sell this car. It is literally falling apart on me every week. I heard that a W124 seat will work on the same bolt pattern but am having a hard time getting verification. Please shoot some ideas my way. Thank you again in advance.

Sympathize with you, the rear seat mountsalways seems to be an area of rust on the later 240Ds and it is hard to stop the tinworm once he gets started.
I know you're frustrated, but why did you choose to replace the '82 seat rather than rebuild it? The seat tracks don't ever really fail they just getfilled with dirt, dust and stray horsehair from the underside of the seat. A good cleaning/ oiling fixes the seat adjustment issue. You can get new horsehair, foam, pads and even complete MB-Texcovers forboth front and rear seats.

Put in my old seat after repairing 3 busted springs and installing a "noodle". Amazing difference. Dude who sold me my 1976 300D AUTO TRANS driver's seat confirmed that he sold me the driver's seat. Still not sure why the seat was so different. I now have proof that the seats are different for some reason. Take care all.[]
