1981 300SD please help!!

Default 1981 300SD please help!!

Got a 1981 300SD last Monday she sat for 3 years any ideas on how to buypass the fuel tank so I can start the engine on good fuel. She cranks over very good now. cleaned the injectors, glow plugs look good, It doesn't look like she is getting enough fuel , she just spits fuel out the lines. just want to try to narrow down the problem, ie: tank, lines, filter, screen etc. Also anyone know about electrical systemin this car? Iget 12+ volts at the battery but only 2+ at the main fuse panel, and where doyou get those old fuses?

Got some advice:
disconnect the fuel line at the small fillter near injector pump.buy a few ffeet of fuel llineand hook up to fillter and put other end in fuel container,pump manuel primer pump then crank motor and it will suck up fuel.....strainer in fuel tank may be cllogged.


Went and bought fuel lines and some fresh fuel... came back and now the car wont even turn over? Battery on charger tested the voltage to the starter 12+ volts what the heck. Not even a single sound, is there a relay or something that i may of blown. Any ideas?

Is the car in Park? If you're not getting anything you may need to check the neutral safety switch.

Thank god for Hanes manuels!!!! found that nuetrel switch, I need to adjust it latter found the neutrel spotand now she turns over not well but at least its not the starter!!!! I'm trying the diesel pruge but with fuel to try to eliminate the fuel tank as a problem no luck yet!!! any sugestions? thanks guys I feel like I am finally going to get her started have Mon/Tues off SHE WILL LIVE!!!!!!!!!

give it a try will only cost about $15 for the two of them. this battery does not like me, But is keeping it's charge. Any bobdy else Have any ideas?

It is the neutral switch!!! Ican get her to turn over in neutral, will get underneath latter to adjust that, still nothing won't fire up! Cleaned the injectors just p/u a new fuel filter thats tomorrow,does it make a difference in this car if the air intake is not on/ connected to the cute little turbo? I just figured I'd ask it's not on now! I bipassed the fuel tank and am useing the set up for the "diesel purge" with a 1 gal fuel can and i primed the system, should fuel come out the manual pump or not?sould I pull offthe fuel lines to the injectors? I'm kinda stuck no progress lately!

Well to give eveyone a update... "Heidi" still hasn't started, changed the fuel filters, all the glow plugs get real red at the tips, pulled all the injectors and cleaned the out/off, new return lines, but now I think the starter or the starter solenoid is done for. Turn the key and get nothing, not the neutral switch, not even the clicking like before. I am getting 12-14 volts to the starter solenoid. Is there a way to tell if is getting the juice while the car should be turning over? I got a couple if 45degree days and would love to get her going!!!
any and all help would be great. If bad where could I p/u one "cheap".

I pulled the starter and took it apart, there was something shorting out, p/u a new one today. She went right in and 1/2 hour of this and that and a spare set of hands she ran!! Once she was running let it run for about a hour. Ran fuel injector cleaner the whole time.

So thats the good but man do I have one heck of a smoke machine!!! Does anyone know how much back pressure is susposed to come out of the top ofthe block?Tomorrow will do the valve gaps and I also have a leaky injector so thats on the plate too.
