Default 1980 300D - Heater stuck on

I can't change temp controls and it's stuck on heat... The A/C button turns on the compressor, the fan buttons work, everything but the temp select dial.

Is there any common culprit I can look for, or do I just start disassembling the console and checking everything per the book? (Actually the book says to replace parts and 'see if that fixes it' :-) I tried replacing the check valve at the vacuum supply under the hood as it was missing, but that didn't do it.

Is there any way to manually swich the flaps to cold bypassing the controller altogether? I don't forsee ever needing the heat in Los Angeles.

It's 105 degrees here and I can't get the car to stop wafting heat on my feet...grrrrr.

Thanks!
Jim

the duo valve for heater must have stucked open.

crimp the hose on duo valve and see if it becomes cold.

make sure the refrigirant is good.
