1978 c240
Hello,
I just purchased a 1978 C240D. The car runs great for almost being 40 years old. At first the RPM's would rev really high when switching gears and putting it in neutral(its a stick/standard.) But the problems went away after about 6 miles of driving. Now I'm just curios what should I do to keep this thing running strong?
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Hello from Canada, Ah yes a great choice. First thing that you must understand is that your 41 year old engine was designed for high sulphur diesel. It is available but not for automobiles any more. Reality is there are those on this forum will disagree but even modern diesels require an fuel additive that serves several functions. One of which is an anti fungicide, another is a cleaner, and a injector anti wear formulation. Make certain the product is specifically for diesels only.
Change your fuel filter oil filter and air filter buy 2 or 3 and carry one with you on long trips.
Change your oil regularly and make certain it is designated for pre 1990 diesels. Enjoy the car for a long time. Allan
