190D 2.0 ticking over too fast
Hi there. I have had my trusty old 1988 190D for 14 years and covered 170,000 miles. Two years ago, I gave her a rest whilst I played with petrol cars for a spell. Now I have put her back on the road (cracked up first time) only to find that the tickover or idle speed is too fast. Tickover is great at 800 rpm when you start her up first thing, but then as the engine warms up, then so does the idling speed to around 1200 rpm. No Turbos or sophisticated electronics fitted on this baby. Just plain old 1997cc diesel power with pneumatic idling device. Didn't want to mess with the idling device as first line of attack, just in case it could be leaking pipe as engine warms up or something !!! Anybody any clues ? Thanks !!
