I just changed my rotors and brake pads this last weekend on my 2001 CLK430 with 90K miles; I used Zimmermann rotors and Akebono ceramic brake pads. So far the result has been very good and I have not heard the brakes do any squeaking noise as some mechanics had predicted they would if I did not use the original MB rotors. The Zimmermann rotors do come with an ugly looking zinc coating which will wear out where the pads touch the rotors once you start driving. (I have already driven some 200 miles)
I had a local mechanic come to my home and do the work for me (Although I like mechanics I am not good at doing this work), however you can do the job yourself if you want to spend some 3 to 4 hours doing it. The mechanic took 5 hours as he also changed the shocks for Bilstein sports front and back.
