Last night my wife and I were cruising down the freeway when we heard a pop and then a noise sounding like we ran over something. I pulled over and inspected the car but saw nothing. As we creeped home (another 5 miles or so down the road) we heard a sound like metal on metal. When we pulled in the driveway I could smell something burning.
When I checked the wheel today, I see no signs of damage. The brake caliper and pads look fine. However, when I put the car in neutral and turn the wheel by hand, I hear that metal on metal grinding in the wheel. Possible wheel bearing?
