Default '99 ml430 transmission, transfer case, differential fuilds

Hi all,

I thinking about changing the fluids on my ml430.

What type of fluid and quantity do I need?

Front differential:
Fluid = Gear Oil? Type? No.?
Qty = ?

Rear Differential:
Fluid = Gear Oil? Type? No.?
Qty = ?

Transfer case:
Fluid = Gear Oil? Type? No.?
Qty = ?

Transmission:
Fluid = ATF? Type? OEM?
Qty = 8.5 liter?

For the transmission, someone mentioned replacing a dipstick and another person mentioned using clutch cable instead? Would someone please elaborate on that? Do I need to replace it and why? Can the original be reused?

Thanks

there is no dipstick so you need something that can get down in there so you can mark where the oil is now so you know where to fill it to when you fill it back up..and i guess someone suggested a clutch cable to use as a dipstick.

You can buy dipstick on e-bay for around $30 or oem at dealer for around $100.
I made one out of lawn mower throttle cable then I bought one later anyway.
If you search this forum, I've reply to someone before with same question.
Fluid level from the end of dipstick is 10mm min. to 21mm max. cold (25deg.C)
and 54mm min. to 65mm max. hot (80deg.C)
You could also catch all of the old fluid and add same valume of new one back into your transmission. Also ones empty drop the pan and replace the filter. I would recommend draining the torque converter. Mercedesshop.com has a very nice fluid and filter change procedure with pictures for 722.6 ML transmission. Fluid is part# 001 989 2103 10
Transfer case takes same transmission fluid or any Dextron III ATF.
For your differetials, you will need 3 liters, 1.6L for rear and 1.2L for the front.
Hypoid Universal gear oil 85W-90 part# 001 989 17 33 or A 000 989 28 03 SAE85W90
