Programing a Replacement Key
Broke My switchblade Type key ( zinc casting suffered metal fatique after 120,000 Kms and 7 years daily use ) fortunately still have " new" wifes spare key( Never used ) so do not have to throw car away - have managed to get a same year switch-blade key off ebay and swappedmy blade for its blade by Knocking out the 2mm spring pin and have a key to fits- unlocks doors and turns over engine but instantly dies - reading on various posts it seems key needs to be programmed ( or to be more accurate car programmed to key )- Has anyone ever managed this other than by going to the dealer and paying +++$

Hi,
I'm missing something here?
Your key blade broke and you replaced it with a new blade from eBay?
You don't mention vehicle Type so not sure whether your ignition uses a blade key or electronic key.
The key "electronic security intelligence" is in the "fob" not the blade so I don't understand why the car starts but then stops!
Mmm. Did you have the batteries out of the fob for a long time in which case maybe its lost its synchronisation.
Does your wifes key work OK?
I assume you managed to get the broken key out of the lock/switch. Is the new key blade from a mechanical perspective the same as the original? Presumably it must be otherwise you would not be able to unlock the doors.
Afraid you will need to go to the dealer!! Suggest you agree the price (with tax etc) BEFORE you leave the car.
Get your "Problem Description" accurately documented since something doesn't seem to add up.
This will avoid any UNCONTROLLED NASTY surprises.

Sorry if I was unclear - wifes key is origional and works fine and is being left alone - I broke my key and took the blade from my key and fitted it to a new 3rd fob controller - so ahve a key now that is mechanically right but electronically wrong!
Hi,
Thought it was the blade that had broken not the fob.
Only answer is the dealer unless you want to get into complex issues and use warez software to generate required key.
