light on dashboard

As I said I have just purchased this car and do not have an owner's manual. Just above the heater controls there is, on the right, a switch with a heater looking coil on it. What does it do?

it's the rear windshield defrost/heater
it turns on with the switch and shuts off with the ignition or time delay
