My top goes down without a problem, but when pressing the button for it to go back up, the whole thing just stays still and i hear a whirring sound. It sounds like it is trying to go up but just won't. Previously, I could assist it and pull the leatherflap behind the rollbars and it would go up but even if I do that the top still stays. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance

 

I have had the same problem just yesterday, I done the same unhocked the cover and placed back in again, still wouldnt go up so I switched the engine off and turned the key on the setting before you start the engine and the roof went up. Did you find out what was causing it.

You need to ensure all the roof switches are making proper circuit. Common for the ones above your head to go intermittant. 1st fix is to remove clear silicane bellows of microswitches .
Also try the following
1. slam boot hard
2. jiggle sw at rear end where plastc cover hooks in
3. jiggle sw under rear of r/h brush in boot

in fact when i click the unlock button on the key fob there's a wurring sound coming from the roof/boot even when the roof is up.

Someone else said there is a fluid that needs topping up?

I was selling the car as we've just had a baby and need something a bit more practical but when I tried the roof I thought damn!!! I can't sell it like that, i took it mercedes garage near me and they asked for £200 just to look at it, i declined and left but now I don't know what to do, can anyone help?

 

my slk 98 roof goes into the boot but the boot wont close and there is a motor noise can some one help with some ideas
