Intro and funny low speed crack on turn
I have just bought my first Mercedes classic - a 1987 560SL. I collect and restore classic British cars - MG, Jaguar, Triumph and Austin. My daily driver is a Porsche Cayenne but this is my first Benz and I love it.
"Brunhilde" is signal red with 103000 miles and came complete with service history. Interior is like new (lambskin covers on the seats from new and a perfect dash top and veneer sections. I can see she has had a replacement windshield as well as lower ball joints, steering rod ends and steering shock. The upper ball joints look OK but I get a crack from the front end when I turn at low speed. Left side on a left turn and right side on a right turn. I am thinking it might be sway bar bushings or an upper ball joint but look to the members here for advice before going further,
Many thanks
Steve

if they don't have play in them, if the rubber linkage boots aren't cracked or brittle you might as a last resort, puncture the boots and use a needle grease nozzle to inject grease into them. worked well for me.
