i bought a 1997 600 sl with 79k miles and it is a great car. im very impressed with the power of the engine. however i decided to take off the convertible hard top which i did, but when i wanted to put it back i couldnt do it. the rear guides wouldnt lock. so i tried the soft top same thing. am doing anything wrong. please i need help . is there any thing i need to know to put my hard top back. i just want to put it back together and forget that its a convertible. its tjust that the hinges are not locking and the roll over bar doesnt seem to work. help call me any one 9564662147.

 

I had a similar problem, try this, ignition on, hold both both window switches down, then both up that should reset the system.

 

I put on the hard top and there were no problems. I went to use the car a week later and the red top light was on and would not go out. I removed the hard top and put up the soft top with the same results. I put on the hard top again and had the same results. The red light will not go out. I can not drive the car with the chime/alarm sounding. I tried to lock the top manually and it is locking OK. When the top is locked down the windows are not going up at the end of the cycle, indicating to me that the cycle is not finished. Any suggestions.

 

Got my first MB two weeks ago! 2000 SL500 Black Diamond Designo. 32,000 miles. Great car! Soft top light stays on?Upon removing hard top light went out but soft top wouldn'twork? After several attempts following directions in owners manual off to the service provider we went. Soft top control module was replaced thought top be damaged during a possible"jump start" attempt. That got the soft top working although the light still came on after hitting a bumpwith hard top on? The passenger rear roof pin latchis opening up from shock load? Broken latch? Out of adjustment? We'll find out next week. Oh, and by the way these roof repairs are very salty!$

 

Picked up my ridetwo days ago and tech advised hard top was at some pointdropped into place. He stated the latches and latch plates were out of adjustment. Didn't need to replace pass rear latch as originally predicted. All is working fine now!
